Introduction
The Growing Place (TGP) is a part of the Christian education Programs of First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables and welcomes children from all faiths and cultures. We also invite families to participate in the worship services and special programs of the church.
Our intent is to guide the children of our school to “learn” through discovery. We provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum for all age groups using Pinnacle Faith Based Program. We believe than when children are allowed to approximate, infer, synthesize, and analyze, information while manipulating objects, learning becomes meaningful. Learning should be a pleasant experience that not only motivates the child, but instills confidence, self- reliance, and independence.
Our Christian educators will provide opportunities for your child to grow socially, emotionally, cognitively, physically, and spiritually in a loving, nurturing, stimulating, non-stereotypical anti-bias environment.
Goal
- To introduce children to Jesus and His love.
- To provide, within a Christian context, the highest quality of early childhood education.
- To encourage children to develop into individuals who can sustain themselves, feel good about themselves, and grow into their full potential as a child of God.
- To provide a safe and secure environment.
- To contribute to the Christian nurturing of the family and,
- To be a church - community link.
2005 Dates
- August 8, 2005 School starts
- August 4, 2005 Welcome Day
Optional Lunch Program
Our Optional Lunch Program is available to any child who will be eating lunch at school. This program allows for you to order lunches each month from Wendy’s, Mario the Baker and Papa John’s. The order is placed for a month at a time and must be turned in by the date indicated on each form. We are unable to take orders on a daily basis. If you choose to use this service, your child’s lunch will be delivered to his/her classroom. Sorry, there are no refunds for absences. This program is available for whatever days you need Tuesday-Friday. Just check off the lunches and dates you want. You can order for as many or as few days as you would like. Also, you must fill out a new order form each month.
Drop Off and Pick Up Program
Drop Off will be available each morning from 8:50 am—9:10 am for anyone interested in using it. Just drive up under the portico from Hernando and stop on the driveway by the Welcome Pavilion entrance. One of our staff members will take your child from the car and bring them into their classroom. If you would like to SIGN UP for the noon Pick Up Program, please fill out a form in Mrs. Fernandez’s office. Parents will receive a Pick Program card to place on the passenger side of the dashboard of their vehicle. Only children who are registered for Pick Up will be brought out to the Welcome Pavilion just before noon. No child will be released to a parent without the Pick Up card visible. Children not picked up by 12:10pm will be taken into ASC and parents will need to pick them up inside. Parents using Pick Up will form a line entering from under the portico to the Welcome Pavilion.
Non-Discrimination Admission Policy
TGP accepts children of any race, color, and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school.
SPA (Support Parent Education Affirmation) Time
Parenting is a non-stop job and can be exhausting. How does coming to a SPA once a month sound? It is almost as good as a massage or facial. Diana Lee facilitates a time for parents to come and share ideas, concerns, and the joys of parenting on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 9:15-10:30am. Private session time is available following each group time if needed. You can sign up for an individual session in the school business office. This program is sponsored by TGP, so there is no cost to participate. We will try to distribute equally the individual time to those interested each month.
Parking
All families will receive 2 parking permits and a copy of the parking guidelines on Parent Night. These permits allow you to park in the church parking lots as long as you have your permits visible on the dashboard of the vehicle during school hours only. Please park either in the main lot located on the corner of Hernando and Biltmore or across the street on the north side of the Coral Way and Hernando lot. The alley, the driveway under the portico, or along Coral Way, are not to be used for parking. Please note: The first row of white blank spaces in the main lot along the Hernando bushes is for CITY OF CORAL GABLES PERMIT ONLY! The Coral Way glass doors will remain locked for safety and security all day. Please use the Welcome Pavilion main entrance or when parking across the street, come in past the playground by the Chapel. The flow of traffic along the alley is from east (Hernando) to west ( Segovia). Please keep slow speeds and watch carefully when backing out. It only takes a second for an accident to happen. Cars parked inappropriately or without permits may be ticketed or towed.
