Serving | Service to Others

At FUMCCG we provide numerous opportunities to serve others in our community, no matter your skills, schedule or age. We believe that if you have a desire to help others, you should get the chance to do so.  For more information on Outreach or Mission, please contact Mary Ward in the church office at 305-445-2578, ext. 103 or mward@fumccg.com or Kathryn Becker, Outreach Team Leader at Kathryn_becker@adp.com.

The following are the outreach and service ministries that we regularly conduct:

  • Feeding The Homeless:  Every third Friday of the month help to prepare and serve meals for those in need.  The Outreach team meets at the Community Partnership for the Homeless, 1550 N. Miami Avenue in downtown Miami.  This program assists homeless men, women and children in transition off the streets of Miami-Dade County and on their way to attaining greater stability and self-sufficiency in their lives.
  • Haiti Earthquake Relief:  Hope for Haiti! Bondye bon tout ton...indeed, God is good all the time!

  • International Mission Trips:  Making a positive impact and alleviating suffering in the lives of many!  Our recent international mission trips to Panama, Cuba, Haiti and Panama built lasting relationships.  On these mission trips we have built chicken coops, fish ponds, rice paddies, planted vegetable gardens, provided medical assistance, eye glasses and the power of prayer and fellowship.  The trips for Panama are scheduled for summer time and Mexico in the spring.  The Cuba and Haiti mission programs are ongoing with trips throughout the year.
  • Habitat For Humanity:  Demonstrate the Love of Jesus by helping your Neighbors build a simple, decent, affordable house.  There are activities for all skill levels.  Just a few hours of commitment will be rewarded ten fold in gratification of building a family a home!
  • The Church Has Left The Building:  A church wide program to support projects to serve our community throughout the year.  The projects are usually Sunday afternoons and members come to church in work clothes to leave after the services to work on projects such as helping build, paint and refresh local communities in need.

  • Tutoring Youth:  Enjoy working with children?  This is the opportunity for you!  The South Miami Branches is in critical need of volunteers to assist with their after school program including tutoring to helping with activities such as basketball and other outdoor sports.  The program is Monday through Friday from 3:45 to 5:00pm for tutoring the 4th through 8th graders followed by outside skills games from 5:00 to 5:30pm and enrichment classes from 5:30 to 6:00pm.  The South Miami Branches is located at the United Methodist Church of South Miami, 6565 Red Road.  For more information, please contact Erin Gaston, Site Coordinator at 305-667-7508 or e-mail gaston@sflum.org.
  • Clean Closet:  The Clean Closet (used to be known as the Sharing Place) is our outreach ministry where your clean clothing donations for men, women, children and infants, get sorted and distributed to different organizations in our community, fulfilling a great need. Located behind Founders Hall and adjacent to the Head Center, The Clean Closet needs your help just a few hours a month to sort and fold clothing every Tuesday from 10:00am to Noon or the 3rd Sunday of every month following the 11:00am service.
  • Community Pantry:  Supporting the number of people in our community who enter our doors in hunger. This outreach involves collecting individual containers of food which can be packed into lunch bags for distribution. Examples include raisins, fruit cups, cookies, individual drinks, small canned items or monetary donations.  Please bring these items to the church office at anytime during the year.
  • Riverside HouseA faith based residential program, Riverside House provides a place where individuals who have chosen crime or fallen prey to substance abuse or homelessness, receive help to break free from the cycles of self-abuse and return to their families and society to live positive and productive lives. This outreach involves collecting items men and women can use as they are dismissed from the center. Items such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, comb, shampoo, etc. can be brought to the church office at any time during the year.
